Q. What are the pros and cons of the ski out to the Morrisey Express and Orient chairlifts?
A. It’s truly the best of both worlds. The Orient Quad is the fastest way to get to the main village and Sunburst and Sundance lifts. It take about 2 minutes to ski out to Orient, 8-9 minutes to ride up Orient and about 10 minutes or so to ski down to the village (depending on how fast you ski). This gives you fast, easy access to the village, and the sunny side of Mt Todd and Sundance. Mt Morrisey however has a ton to offer! Because the Morrisey runs aren’t in the direct sunlight, they tend to not ice up like the runs on Todd mountain and Sundance do on warm sunny afternoons. Our favourite green run at Sun Peaks is on Morrisey mountain and is called The Sticks. There are many awesome blue and black runs from Morrisey as well!
Q. What exactly do you mean by “true” ski in/ski out?
A. There is no generally agreed upon rule for what defines ski in/ski out. Some properties list their location as ski in/ski out while making you walk 50-200m uphill/downhill to get to or from the condo. This is true for several complexes at Sun Peaks. The complex may be "ski in/ski out" but depending on the location of the individual unit, you could have to walk a long way carrying your gear. At 34SX, you simply have to walk across the driveway and pop your skis on. Please see the ski in/ski out videos so you can see exactly how easy it is!
Q. You say 34SX sleeps up to 8 people, but with only two bedrooms, how is that so?
A. 34SX can sleep up to 8 guests, all in queen-sized beds. However, that means two people will be on the top bunk of a bunk bed. We honestly don’t recommend the top bunk to people unless they are very nimble as you have to climb up a ladder to get in and out. There is a maximum weight of 225lbs on the top bunk. We also have an amazingly comfortable pull-out couch in the living room. It has a queen-sized Tempur-Pedic mattress that guests have raved about. Can 34SX sleep 8? Yes, but make sure you understand and are comfortable with the sleeping arrangements before finalizing your decision to rent here.
Q. Why do you highlight your hot tub as “private”?
A. The deck railing surrounds the hot tub that backs onto green space where there are very few passers-by. The trees protect those in the hot tub from much of the wind that can spoil an otherwise relaxing soak on a cold winter night. Many other condos at the resort have their hot tubs out in the open-facing sidewalks, the street or common courtyards. 34SX gives you far more privacy while you’re soaking.
Q. Is the Settlers Crossing complex a big party location?
A. No, absolutely not. If you are looking for a party place, we suggest you look for a place in the heart of the village. Settlers Crossing has a strict noise policy -- quiet time is between 11:00pm and 7:00am daily.
Q. What is the percentage breakdown by terrain type at Sun Peaks?
A. Sun Peaks is Canada's second largest ski resort. There are 137 runs and 13 lifts. Alpine: Novice - 10%, Intermediate - 58%, advanced and expert - 32%. There are two bowls, a 10 acre terrain park for all levels, 137 trails and 17 gladed areas. Nordic: 38 Km of groomed and track set nordic trails and 17 km of backcountry trails. You can get more details from the Sun Peaks Resort web site
Q. What are your check in and check out times?
A. Typically check out is 11:00am and check in is 3:00pm, however, we will be as flexible as possible to accommodate your travel schedule so please check with us.
Q. Where are the best places to purchase food and alcohol?
A. While Sun Peaks Village has a very convenient small grocery store and well stocked liquor store, many people chose to purchase groceries from Kamloops. Fortunately there is an awesome service here called Sun Peaks Cargo. You can order food online and they will deliver it to your condo and even put it in the fridge for you -- all for a very good fee! Additionally, they will pick up alcohol for you! They are extremely reliable and trustworthy. Please check with us first if you plan on having groceries delivered in advance of your check in day to insure we can accommodate that for you.
Q. Is smoking allowed at 34SX?
A. There is no smoking of any kind allowed at 34SX or at Settlers Crossing. This is a condo complex regulation.
Q. What do we do with our garbage?
A. At Sun Peaks, all residents and visitors must take their garbage to the secured transfer station located near the entrance to the resort. As we are located in an area with great deal of wildlife (bear, cougars, etc.) garbage must always be secured and never left outside. We can provide directions to the transfer station. If you don't have a vehicle, we can arrange for your garbage to be picked up on a schedule during your stay if you would like - there will be a small fee for this.
Q. How do we get to Sun Peaks?
A. Sun Peaks is located a 45 minute drive north of Kamloops, BC. Kamloops is the closest airport to fly into and also has several rental car options. If you choose not to rent a car, there are shuttle options available as well. Shuttle details are available on the Sun Peaks Resort website.
Q. How do I get around while I'm at 34SX?
A. 34SX is located about 10-15 minute walk to the village. Additionally there is an in-resort free shuttle that runs daily. The schedule can be found here.
